World Day Against Trafficking In Persons
Human trafficking involves trade of humans for the purposes of forced labor and sex. It has one of the biggest industries among-st other severe transnational crimes. Victims of trafficking are subject to huge exploitation and discrimination and that women, children, refugees and migrants without nationality and birth verification are particularly vulnerable to human trafficking. Further different domestic laws in different countries make it difficult to prosecute criminals and deliver justice.
According to the reports of international labor organization, approximately 21 million people are yearly forced into this dark business. Whether it is a country of origin, transit or refuge, all are equally affected by this transnational crime.
There is strong condemnation of this crime by major countries all across the world who are finding ways to successfully deal with this problem effecting a large number of people specially women and children.
In view of the same, the United Nations in a General Assembly adopted a resolution to declare July 30th as the World Day against trafficking in persons. The main agenda behind the same was to raise awareness about the trafficked persons and further work towards the promotion and protection of their interests and rights. It also urged the member states to immediately ratify the resolution so as to effectively deal with problem at a global level.
