Tempering With Exam Results
Examinations are been a measure of one’s genius. Really?
The Ruby Rai controversy where students have been held by the police for tampering with the results is a smack in the face of our education system. The teachers and administration aren’t the only ones to be blamed. The overly protective and affectionate Indian parents can never let their kids down. In Ruby Rai’s case, she had requested her father to pay off the authorities so that she could pass the exam. Daddy dearest instead, invested a little extra of his wealth (wonder where all that money came from), and the board felicitated her as the ‘Political Science Topper.’ Our wizkid then issued a statement that Political Science is all about cooking stories. She avoided re-exams, said she had forgotten everything and the banter didn’t change. But, what changed was her result. She failed to pass in a subject, she’d topped with 444/500 marks.
Saurabh, a science topper commented, “Aluminum is the most reactive element.” (He scored 485/500 in Science)
If this is a riot, what would you call an English professor who couldn’t spell “evaluation” or an Economics professor who doesn’t know what IMF stands for? They’re professors in distinct colleges in UP.
The CBSE and ICSE/ISC boards accepted that they’ve been altering the results so that the image isn’t spoiled.
So, whatever you scored in your class 12th examinations wasn’t your intellect entirely. It was the board trying to keep up with their image. Fascinating?
