School of Sciences (SoS) organized an educational visit to Sardar Patel University, Mandi (H.P.) from 16/02/2024 to 17/02/2024.  Sardar Patel University is nestled in the lap of the Himalayan ranges in the heartland district of Himachal Pradesh, Mandi and is situated on the banks of the mighty Beas River. It aspires to excel as a University of Excellence in the coming years by combining value-based ethical holistic education with modern scientific education and marching ahead in the path of academic progress, contributing to the social, economic, political, and cultural development of the region in general and the state in particular. Total 52 students including M.Sc. Chemistry (2^nd  Sem., 4th Sem), B.Sc. Chemistry (6th Sem.) and some students of D.pharma (2^nd Sem., 4^th sem) visited SPU. Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Ms.Suchi Sharma and Mr. Mohan Kaushik were the  coordinators of the visit.

The tour was organized for students studying analytical chemistry, which is a part of their curriculum. It aimed to provide practical exposure to various scientific instruments used in analytical chemistry.

Notable Experiences and Learnings:

 One of the highlights of the tour was the demonstration of the photospectrometer, a crucial instrument used in analytical chemistry for measuring the intensity of light absorbed by a sample. The students had the opportunity toA detailed demonstration of the distillation apparatus was given, which is fundamental equipment in chemical laboratories for separating components of a mixture based on differences in their boiling points. Witnessing the distillation process firsthand enhanced understanding of this essential technique. Another significant aspect of our tour was the introduction to UV and IR spectrometers. These instruments are indispensable in analytical chemistry for identifying and analyzing compounds based on their absorption of ultraviolet and infrared radiation, respectively. We had hands-on experience operating these spectrometers under the guidance of knowledgeable instructors.

The visit provided an invaluable practical experience, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Operating sophisticated instruments like the photo spectrometer and spectrometers reinforced understanding of analytical techniques discussed in class.Witnessing the latest advancements in analytical instrumentation at Sardar Patel University underscored the importance of staying updated with emerging technologies in the field of chemistry. Interacting with professors and fellow students during the tour facilitated collaborative learning, allowing the students and faculty to exchange insights and enhance their comprehension of analytical chemistry concepts.

 Educational tour to Sardar Patel University was an enriching experience that provided practical insights into the operation and applications of essential instruments used in analytical chemistry. It was an opportunity to expand knowledge and skills through hands-on learning, and we look forward to the students to apply these experiences in their academic and professional endeavors.
