International Tiger’s Day Celebrated

To commemorate and celebrate the survival of one of the most majestic animals, tigers; 29 July every year is celebrated as the international tiger’s day. Also commonly referred to as the global tiger’s day, it is a global initiative towards saving tigers and spreading awareness about their endangerment as a species. It was founded at the Saint Petersburg tigers summit of 2010 and has been celebrated by major animal welfare organizations across the world ever since. The main reason for this initiation was the massive drop in tiger population due to human activities and an urgent need to address the matter.

Research proves that tiger’s have lost more than 93% of their habitats due to the massive deforestation and expansion of cities and agricultural activities. This has further left fewer tigers at scattered islands leaving less scope of inbreeding and making them more susceptible to poaching and hunting. Further high demands of tiger skins in the black markets have also added to the civic danger tiger’s face.

Therefore, the main goal for tiger’s day is to conserve, expand and protect the habitat of this magnificent species and further gain mass support for tiger conservation through awareness among people.
