Scope of Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering is the field wherein one applies the principles of physics and mechanics to the medical strata. In simple terms it is one of the only inter phases that joins medicine and mechanics and therefore the subjects covered under it are such as bioelectric phenomena, digital electronics, micro processors, digital electronics, etc. Requirements for this subject are either a B.Tech degree in biomedical engineering or M.Tech in later fields.  One can even choose to do a PHD once the basic degree is completed.

Since it is comparatively a new subject in India, it has a limited scope due to the amount of specialization and knowledge requirement that come with the field but a student may choose to pursue jobs in non-tech fields such as management, services, etc or further research in universities, labs, hospitals, etc. Further various companies like L&T, Philips, Stryker, etc in India have requirements for biomedical engineers and hence offer high packages.

Further the students also have an option of higher studies and research in abroad. Other than that; developed countries like US, UK, Japan have major opportunities open in this field. A career in these places would be highly rewarding and satisfactory due to presence of a well integrated system of medicine and research.
