Growing population, decreasing resources, pollution and tough and unpredictable environment are putting pressure on the agriculture sector. With lots of changes in the weather pattern and various other challenges, the agriculture sector has transformed from a neglected sector to a high tech oriented sector. To ensure good yield from farms agriculture scientists are working tirelessly to explore and passing lab finding to the farmers. The first green revolution is one good example of a meticulous scientific approach that had virtually changed the pattern of Indian agriculture and envisaged the vision of making India self-reliant in the agriculture sector.
The world is progressing fast and so agriculture sector is also experiencing many changes. From the uncontrolled agriculture pattern, agriculture scientists have devised a way to make it fully controlled. Agriculture has transformed many ways and now is a fast-moving and full of high-technology.
India, predominantly, is an agriculture-based country and about 65% of its population depend on it. However, even after many government initiatives, farmers in many parts of the country still finding difficult to cope up with the changing weather pattern and making agriculture a loss-making occupation. India, which is endowed with sufficient natural resources, still lacking behind in making high yield seeds available for farmers and has also failed to introduce technology-driven agriculture. The biggest problem, which has been witnessed is lack of proper agriculture education in the country. The government has started many agriculture-based courses and even open many agriculture and horticulture based university and colleges in many parts of the country, but still not enough to cover all.
Aiming to contribute to the nation and doing it bit to extend knowledge of agriculture to the budding talents, the Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology has initiated with an independent School of Agriculture Sciences at its campus with experienced faculty and modern laboratories. The University is offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture-4 year Programme and the course has been designed as per the recommendations of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) 5th Dean’s Committee Report.
